 What is a Doula?

The word "Doula" comes from Greek, translated to mean "slave" or "servant." While often known for their negative connotations, slave and servant in this definition refer to one's expression of love through the care and support in various communities to laboring women and new mothers. Today's Doula is a trained professional birth companion who offers emotional and physical support to laboring and new mothers. Doulas have a powerful effect on the first significant rite of passage that all humans must complete, and that is being born.

Why You Should Have a Doula!

Evidence shows that having a doula present during birth reduces your pain, and reduces your chances of having to have medical interventions, such as epidurals, and c-sections. But! Even if you decide to have an epidural, pain medication, or you end up having to have a c-section, I will still be there to support you with absolutely No Judgment. Evidence also shows that having someone care for you at home after you’ve given birth can reduce your chances of having postpartum depression, and increase your chances of healing properly, both physically and mentally.
